Features

How many freezers or boxes can I add?

The free tier includes 1 freezer, 3 boxes, and 30 samples. A CryoStats Pro subscription ($3.99/month or $24.99/year, with a 1-month free trial) unlocks unlimited freezers, boxes, and samples. Practical limits then depend on your device storage and iCloud capacity.

Do I need a subscription to use CryoStats on Mac?

Yes. CryoStats for Mac requires an active CryoStats Pro subscription. Subscribe once on your iPhone and your Mac unlocks automatically, it's the same inventory, synced through your iCloud account.

Is CryoStats designed for individual or team use?

CryoStats is designed for individual researchers. Each user manages their own inventory under their own Apple ID and iCloud account. Freezer sharing between users is not currently supported.

Can I use CryoStats offline?

Yes. Because data is stored locally on your device, CryoStats works without an internet connection. Changes sync to your personal iCloud account when connectivity is restored.

What is Ice Bucket?

Ice Bucket is a built-in staging area that tracks samples currently outside the freezer. Queue the samples you need before heading to the freezer, mark them as retrieved, and CryoStats remembers exactly where each one came from so you can return them to the right position. You can also log discarded samples and stage new ones before assigning them a freezer position.

Can I share sample details with a labmate?

Yes. From any sample's detail screen you can share its name, type, location, and a PDF summary via iMessage, email, AirDrop, or any other share option. The recipient doesn't need CryoStats or an account, they get a readable PDF or text message.

Can CryoStats read box labels automatically?

Yes. CryoStats uses on-device OCR (Apple's Vision framework) to read tube and box labels from photos, and can even detect cap colors to help you tell samples apart. You can train a custom word library and add custom sample types for your lab's naming conventions.

Can I export or back up my data?

Yes. CryoStats supports PDF export for sharing or printing, plus full backup and restore to the Files app. Your data is always portable.
