Overview & Scope
CryoStats, LLC ("CryoStats," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in two distinct contexts:
- The App, the CryoStats application for iPhone and Mac. The App is built with a privacy-first architecture: we operate no servers, and we do not collect personal information through the App.
- This Website, cryostats.io. The website uses Google Analytics (a cookie-based analytics service) to understand aggregate traffic. These cookies are optional and consent-controlled.
The sections below are labeled (App) or (Website) so it is always clear which applies.
Data We Do Not Collect (App)
Through the CryoStats App, CryoStats, LLC does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Your name, email address, or contact information
- Institutional or organizational affiliation
- Sample names, tube labels, or any data you enter into the App
- Photos or images you capture within the App
- Location data
- Any other personally identifiable information
Where Your Data Lives (App)
All data you create in CryoStats, including freezer maps, sample records, and images, is stored exclusively:
- On your device (local storage), and/or
- In your personal Apple iCloud account (if iCloud sync is enabled in your device settings)
CryoStats has no access to your iCloud data. Apple's privacy policies govern iCloud storage. Your data is yours.
Apple App Analytics (App)
CryoStats may receive de-identified, aggregated usage metrics through Apple's App Analytics program (if you have opted in to share analytics with app developers in your device settings). These metrics:
- Do not contain any personal information
- Cannot be used to identify individual users
- Are governed by Apple's own privacy policies and your device privacy settings
You can opt out of sharing this data in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on your iPhone, or System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements on your Mac.
Subscriptions & Payments (App)
CryoStats uses the Apple App Store for all subscription transactions. CryoStats never receives your payment card information, billing address, or Apple ID credentials. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on how Apple handles payment information.
Cookies & Analytics (Website)
cryostats.io uses Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google LLC) to understand how visitors use the site, for example, which pages are viewed and how visitors arrive. Google acts as our data processor for this purpose. Analytics is off by default and only runs in accordance with your consent choice (see Your Privacy Rights below).
When enabled, Google Analytics sets the following cookies and may process the following information:
- _ga, distinguishes unique visitors. Expires after ~2 years.
- _gid / _ga_<container>, distinguishes visitors and sessions. Expires after ~24 hours to ~2 years.
- Information processed: a truncated/anonymized IP address, approximate (city-level) location, pages viewed, referring website, and general device and browser type. We do not use Google Analytics to build advertising profiles, and we do not enable Google advertising features (Google Signals) or run any advertising cookies.
We also store a single small record in your browser's local storage, cryostats_consent, to remember your cookie choice. It contains no personal information and is never sent to a server.
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK)
Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, our legal basis for setting analytics cookies and processing the associated data is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You may withdraw your consent at any time via Your Privacy Choices; withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.
International Data Transfers
Google Analytics is operated by Google LLC, and your analytics data may be processed on servers in the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on Google's data-processing terms and Standard Contractual Clauses. By consenting to analytics cookies, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Data Retention (Website)
Google Analytics data associated with cookies and identifiers is retained for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted. Aggregated, non-identifying reports may be retained longer.
Your Privacy Rights
Everyone
Regardless of where you live, you can change or withdraw your website cookie consent at any time using the Your Privacy Choices link (in the page footer and above). Rejecting analytics is as easy as accepting it.
European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to: access your personal data; request correction or erasure; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and withdraw consent. For website analytics, prior consent is required, and analytics cookies are not set until you opt in. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, email admin@cryostats.io.
United States
Depending on your state of residence (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to: confirm whether we process your personal information; access, correct, or delete it; and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and of targeted advertising. We do not sell your personal information for money. Our use of Google Analytics may be considered "sharing" of personal information under some state laws.
To opt out of analytics cookies, use Your Privacy Choices. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out request: if your browser sends GPC, we automatically turn analytics off and confirm that the signal was applied. To exercise other rights, email admin@cryostats.io. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Canada (PIPEDA) & Quebec (Law 25)
If you are in Canada, you may request access to and correction of your personal information, and you may withdraw consent to analytics cookies at any time via Your Privacy Choices. For visitors in Quebec, in accordance with Law 25, analytics cookies are not activated until you provide express consent, and you may refuse them as easily as you accept them. To exercise your rights, or to contact the person responsible for the protection of personal information, email admin@cryostats.io.
Voluntary Support Communications
If you choose to contact us for support (e.g., by emailing admin@cryostats.io), any information you include is provided voluntarily and used solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not share support communications with third parties except as required by law. Please do not include sensitive sample or patient data in support emails.
Children's Privacy
CryoStats is intended for users aged 16 and older, and the App is distributed only to users 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided personal information to us, please contact us at admin@cryostats.io and we will take steps to delete such information.
Not for Clinical Use
CryoStats is designed for research laboratory use only. It is not intended for clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, or patient-care purposes, and should not be used in any environment where patient data or protected health information (PHI) might be handled. Data Security
Because the CryoStats App does not operate its own servers or databases, there is no CryoStats-side data breach risk for your lab data. The security of your App data depends on your device and iCloud account security; we recommend a strong device passcode, two-factor authentication on your Apple ID, and keeping your software up to date. For website analytics, data is protected by Google's security infrastructure as described in Google's privacy and security documentation.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, ask you to review your cookie choices again. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
